By the end you can: Make any noun plural, and know the one time you must not.

The plural marker is -. If the word ends in a vowel, just add it — but a final becomes and a final becomes first: → , → , → .

If the word ends in a consonant, you need a linking vowel before the -, and it harmonises: back words take - ( → , → ), front unrounded take - ( → , → ), front rounded take - ( → ).

A small set of very common words take - / - instead — → , → is regular but → , → shorten the stem vowel. These are worth memorising as you meet them; there is no rule that predicts them.

After a number or a quantity word, the noun stays singular. , not . , , . The number already tells you there is more than one, so Hungarian does not mark it twice. This is the opposite of English and German, and it is the mistake learners make most.
